I’m a DevOps/Cloud engineer with a background in design and frontend development. Also I’m a proud and sometimes exhausted dad of a little girl and an avid amateur radio operator.
I help people to deploy their software on both production grade environments and fast living development systems. Im both at home in the world of automation, building pipelines and optimizing them for performance and purpose, as well as building high avaible Kubernetes clusters. As a former developer I don’t adhere to the Sysadmin/BOFH pathos, but know the challenges and obstacles development teams and individual developers face daily.
I strongly believe that development teams should be allowed to focus on their main skillset: writing great software! Thus they should get all the tools they need in order to accomplish exactly that without having to worry about deployments and repeating manual tasks all day long.
I’ve seen the trend of full stack come and go, whitnessed several teams and organizations adopting and discarding it. While I believe, that everyone should have at least an understanding of most technologies involved, most projects are so complex, that even understanding every aspect in just one field, and keeping track on all the changes is an overhead that distracts individuals from ecxelling in their current field of expertise. A good backend developer should not have to deal with UI engineering, writing CSS and knowing all the pitfalls of differnent browsers, nor should she/he have to know the ins and out of running servers or kubernetes clusters.
While I am a strong believer in the methology of constant improvement and feedback loops, I’ve grown a distaste for Scrum and Kanban, even though, or maybe because I am a certified Scrum master and moderated counteless retrospectives, sat in way too many Scrum meetings and worked with both systems for many years.
